Religious Trauma or Faith Transitions
It can be very difficult to have experienced religious trauma or to be stepping away from religious beliefs you once held. I acknowledge that, although religion and spirituality are deeply personal and can provide guidance, that is not always the case for some people. No matter where you’re at in the process, I am here to support you every step of the way!
As your therapist, I will help you break down any judgement or shame you might have around questioning or leaving your religious beliefs, learn to navigate shifting relationships with family and friends, explore your identity as a person when it’s not tied to a specific faith, and feel a sense of empowerment as you become more autonomous.
Aside from talking about your religious experiences directly, we can examine the indirect impacts you may be experiencing—anxiety, perfectionism, trouble setting boundaries, low self-esteem, etc.—that are commonly experienced by those who are part of high-demand religions or organizations. Deconstructing religious beliefs can be challenging, but you do not have to go through this process alone.
